#hgd13 – the foam hands edition
OK, so @asifchoudry reminded me of one of my highlights from the #hgd13 event in Liverpool on the 16th July. The foam hands.
In attending Asif’s session titled ‘Marketing is more than just Twitter’, we were tasked with making our very first Vine video using some props. The props were a box full of blue foam hands with the line ‘we’re here for customers’ written on them. I have to say, being set a challenge of doing a Vine video as a group of 15 or so, when no-one (apart from Asif) had done one before, was certainly a novel way of getting the attendee’s to interact! After some initial blank stares and ‘over my dead body’ looks from some of us, as a group we came up with a half decent first Vine video here.
As a bonus, we were offered to take any foam hands away with us. I took two of these home for the kids and they have found various and novel ways of using them including, poking each other, pointing at anything and everything and arguing over which one is there’s (they are both exactly the same). But, it did get me thinking – this is the power of good marketing (you’d be proud of me Asif!). I’ve taken them without giving a thought to the message, but it’s always there on the foam hand. It was also a great way of remembering the #hgd13 session aswell as having some fun.
I also took up the challenge from the event of creating my very first Vine, which you can see here.
It’s not the best effort in the world, but I can see just how easy and addictive they are to make. Spielberg doesn’t need to watch over his shoulder just yet, but give me time!!
